Cosmetic Surgery with Botox

Damage does happen to your skin over time. Age, pollution, sun damage, heredity, and your skin care routine can all have an affect on the appearance of your skin. You do not have to sit back and just accept that you are simply going to look old. You also do not need to undergo an extensive cosmetic surgery procedure. Instead you could choose a cosmetic procedure such as Botox injections. This one procedure has the potential of making you feel more self confident, and giving you more self esteem.

What is Botox?

The scientific name for Botox is really botulinum toxin. This is a protein that is created by bacteria, but it is then sterilized and purified. This injection can be used by your plastic surgeon to help with wrinkles that are specifically caused by the repeated use of the facial muscles that deal with facial expressions. This means that Botox is especially good for such items as deep forehead creases, crow's feet, and brow furrows.

How does it work?

When Botox is used in small amounts and is injected into a muscle, it attaches itself to the nerve endings in that muscle, and then basically paralyzes the area directly around that muscle. The end result is smoother skin. The previous wrinkles have been eliminated, and new wrinkles can be avoided. The weakening of the muscle lasts for anywhere from 3-6 months. Unfortunately this means that this cosmetic procedure must be repeated at regular intervals for you to continue receiving the desired results.

What Happens During this Cosmetic Surgery Procedure?

Since actual plastic surgery is not required for this particular cosmetic procedure, it is performed directly in your doctor's office. The injections take only a few minutes to insert into the appropriate places. Because this cosmetic procedure is such a simple procedure, most people can immediately return home or even to work. This minimal interruption into your daily life is one reason why it is so popular.

What are the Risks?

There is the possibility that more protein than is really necessary could be injected into the muscle. This could cause you to experience more muscle paralysis than is needed for results causing an unnatural appearance. If you make sure to choose a plastic surgeon with extensive experience with this type of procedure, this risk is extremely minimal. After the injections you will most likely experience some irritation at the injection sites, redness, and bruising are all also possible. Swelling directly at the injection site is a possibility as well. Most of these possible side effects are so minor, that the application of regular makeup will disguise them effectively.
