Chin Augmentation Cosmetic Surgery
Your profile is a big part of the impression that you leave on people. One part of your profile to consider is your chin. Many times if you have had cosmetic nose surgery done, your surgeon will suggest a chin augmentation as well to make sure that you get the balanced facial appearance and the profile that you are wanting. By inserting an implant or even adjusting your jaw bone, your receding chin can be fixed so that your self confidence can increase.
During Cosmetic Chin Augmentation Surgery
This procedure can take anywhere between less than an hour to up to three hours to complete. The exact time depends entirely on exactly what needs to be done in your particular case. The surgery starts with a small incision that is placed either inside the mouth where the gum and lower lip connect, or in the crease line that naturally occurs just under the chin. This placement makes the scar either almost or entirely invisible. The surrounding tissue is then gently stretched so that room for the jaw movement or the implant can be made. If an implant is being used, do not fear. It is made of a synthetic material that will feel just like the surrounding natural material. A large variety of sizes and shapes are available so that your chin can look natural and so that it will compliment your other facial features. At the end of this cosmetic procedure, your plastic surgeon will use small sutures to close up your incision.
After Plastic Surgery
For the two to three days following surgery, you will have a dressing covering your incision. This will help to keep things sanitary and well protected. You will experience some discomfort as your body heals. Prescribed pain medications can help to control that discomfort. You will also feel a stretched and tight sensation in your chin. This should go away within about one week. Since your jaw area is affected, chewing will need to be limited for several days, and you will be given a liquid and soft food diet that will allow your chin the time to heal that it needs. You will be allowed to resume most normal activities after 10 days, although heavy exercise may still be limited for a few weeks. It could take up to six weeks for all of the swelling to go down, but at this point, you can enjoy your new profile. You will find that your self confidence has increased as a result of this surgical procedure.
